Dan Martin's novel, JOURNEY BACK, is a story of psychological suspense, which right
from the start, propels the reader inside the mind of a mentally unstable main

“One day it dawned on me that I had to leave and I had
to do it quickly because they knew where I was and how to find me. I don’t know
how I knew but it didn’t matter. So I packed my bags and I turned off the lights
and I left

Convinced that his
pursuers are closing in on him, Richard Jones drives across the country, changes
his name, and starts a new life, becoming a journalist for an alternative
magazine in San Francisco.
|
|
Life is good for Jones in San Francisco, at least at first. He moves in with Cheryl, an
attractive co-worker, and strikes up an intense friendship with Cati, an
alluring young witch. But then he hears of secret experiments being conducted
with BNG, a new drug synthesized from a rare plant discovered in the Central
American rain forest. The drug is said to have extraordinary effects, including
allowing its users to re-experience the traumas of their lives with fresh
insight, and helping drug addicts and alcoholics break free of their habits.
|
|
The problem for Jones is that in order to write the story of the drug, he must first become part of
the experiment. So he goes to live in an underground lab and research facility
with a bizarre cast of characters, including recovering addicts, Raoul, the
charismatic leader of the experiment, and Monique, his salacious assistant. And
while under the influence of BNG Jones begins to relive and come to terms with
his troubled past, journeying back to memories long forgotten.
